Shopping is not a One Man's World ... its a Two Women World

The everlasting tussle between man and woman; about the way they do things and the things they do, the things they want and the reasons why they want them and the list goes on infinitely. It seems that even as we may think that man and woman are clearly defined and that their differences have been clearly demarcated, it is no surprise that we can find a new difference everyday.

Battles were fought, some won and some lost, but the battle that men can never dream to win, or will ever dare to stand up to is shopping. Somehow or another, it seems as though men purposefully lost this battle of shopping. But whatever the reasons are, shopping is an activity clearly dominated by women.

Compare a man and a man, a woman and a man, a woman and a woman going on a shopping trip. One man in Team MM tells the other guy: "Let's go eat something." (end of Story).

In the second team, Team MW or Team WM (doesn't really matter), The man does not say anything. The woman tells the man: "Afterwards, let's go eat something". Sometimes, the man says something when he realises there is no "afterwards". however, most of the time, he doesn't say anything. (End of Story)

In the third team, Team WW, the most fascinating combination and the dream team of every retailer, the women don't really talk about food.

Well jokes aside, but I really do think there is a difference in the shopping patterns of man and woman. But more importantly, it is not about what gender you are of that makes you shop more. Rather, it is the person you are with who determines whether shopping is fun or boring. I always think that shopping should never be a lonely affair, even if it is just groceries, or even window shopping.

In fact, it is impossible to shop alone. It's just not shopping anymore if you are shopping alone.

I find myself going out shopping most often with:I find myself going out shopping most often with:
My Parents
My Siblings
My Boyfriend / Girlfriend
My Boyfriends / Girlfriends (Go Figure...)
Buddies, Pals and Friends in a Whole Big Group
Just one or two good friends ...
Just someone who is free... I must have someone to accompany me!
I don't shop. Much less with anyone else. Shopping is a waste of time...
Just me and myself.
Strangers. (I don't even know what that means.)
Thank You

Creepy Shopping Malls...

Do you know that it is actually possible to be spooked by a shopping mall? I mean, the general impression we have of shopping malls are that they are full of people that we want to see and unfortunately some that we rather not see, full of colourful and adventurous design features and retailing outlets but upon coming onto Far East Shopping Centre, I guess that is not always the case.

Have you tried walking around in this shopping centre? I bet most of us don't even know of its existence unless you play pool or the arcade. Located just beside Hilton, its first impression is that it is old fashioned, it is crummy and boring, with it having a jewellery shop at the ground level, making it seem like you were back in the 70s or 80s (I don't know, it's just old). Going there in the daytime, you can already notice that there aren't quite many people walking around. (The place seems to be filled with maid agencies, suppliers and a pet shop?) But going there at night, WOAH...it's like those cheesy midnight Hong Kong horror flicks where people get stuck in a haunted building. (Actually, I spend more time getting a good laugh than get scared when watching these movies).

But seriously, it can get creepy just by walking alone, especially when you are a girl. The silence can actually be quite foreboding, with that low frequency rumbling sound when you approach the "rackety" escalators. And somehow, you just don't want to take the elevators or you don't even feel like finding them. And when you past by the slimming centre which is located at a level I can't even remember, those paperboard women just seem out of place, as though they should not be there. Anyway, what's a slimming centre doing there?

The bottomline is that such shopping malls do exist in Singapore. One wonders whether they will one day become a haunt - not for your odd shopper but a haunt for youths and people who spend. How many other shopping centres are like that? Why the heck are they like that? Can they even live with such an image?

You can only ponder... (And remember to get someone to walk with you...)

Funny Place for a Slimming Centre. When there is no one around, bumping into them when its late into the night and when there is no one around is no funny experience though. (just kidding...)
